Transfer deadline day summer 2019: The deals done so far

The transfer window ended with a flurry of activity as the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Leicester, Sheffield United and Manchester City all put pen to paper on a number of late deals.

While the Gunners secured the services of David Luiz and Kieran Tierney, their rivals Spurs brought in Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis having failed to finalise a transfer for Paulo Dybala.

Elsewhere, Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan, Leicester bought Dennis Praet, Mo Besic joined Sheffield United and, in one of the more unexpected deals of the day, Manchester City signed Derby's Scott Carson on loan. Look back over these transfers, and many others, in our deadline day blog below:

Welcome to The Independent's live coverage of what promises to be one of the most action-packed deadline days in recent memory.

Arsenal are hoping to complete a double defensive swoop, Manchester United are considering a late move for a striker after Romelu Lukaku's exit, Tottenham are set to break their transfer record for the second time this summer and Wilfried Zaha is praying that Crystal Palace will finally accept an offer for his departure.

We'll bring you every story throughout the day right up until the 5pm deadline and beyond as the last minute jets, paperwork and faulty faxes are finalised.

So let's begin with last night's developments. After three years of flirting, Tottenham are finally set to sign Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon after the two clubs agreed a £25m fee. Here are all the details:

And after going AWOL at Anderlecht, Romelu Lukaku reappeared within the comfortable confines of his agent's private jet en route to Milan after Inter finally came to an agreement with Manchester United. The striker finally has his wish and will undergo a medical today:

After a summer spent wrangling over wages, Danny Welbeck settled on a London stay and joined Watford yesterday after being released by Arsenal in the summer.

Wilfried Zaha handed in a transfer request yesterday after Everton reportedly had a second bid turned down worth upwards of £70m for the winger.

Zaha has repeatedly voiced his desire to move on to the Palace hierarchy but they've stayed resolute thus far and it remains to be seen whether anyone will rise to their £80m evaluation.

Instead Everton are pursuing Arsenal's Alex Iwobi as a cut-price alternative and had a £30m bid rejected yesterday for the 23-year-old.

Arsenal are asking for £40m for the player, however, there is a willingness to let him leave if that fee is met, while Iwobi is said to be open to leave in search of playing time after the arrival of Nicolas Pepe.

But the biggest development yesterday was Arsenal's pursuit of Chelsea centre-back David Luiz.

The Gunners have had approaches for RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano and Juventus' Daniele Rugani turned down this window and have now agreed an £8m fee for the veteran English defender.

Everton have signed France defender Djibril Sidibe on a season-long loan from AS Monaco.

Sidibe, 27, helped Monaco win the Ligue 1 title in 2017 and was a member of the France squad who won last year's World Cup.

"It is important to have different options in each position and with Djibril and Seamus (Coleman), we now have two high-quality right backs," Everton manager Marco Silva said.

Sidibe, who has played 18 times for his country, said it was an easy decision to make.

"Everton are recruiting with the intent to win trophies and play on the biggest stage. I am 100 per cent motivated and ready to help the club achieve its goals and to achieve my own individual goals," Sidibe told Everton TV.

A move for Paulo Dybala is not dead, according to our Chief Football Writer Miguel Delaney.

Tottenham have agreed personal terms for the player, however, his image rights are proving a huge stumbling block. Read all the details here:

Christian Eriksen has pulled the plug on a move to Manchester United, instead choosing to leave on a lucrative free transfer to Spain next summer.

United had hoped to secure a £50m deal for the Dane, while Mauricio Pochettino was happy for the player to leave. However, he will stay put for one final year as he prays for a long-coveted move to Real Madrid.
