Joachim Löw, the Germany coach, has ruled out an emotional exit from the international game for the veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann in this month's friendly against England.

Stuttgart's former Arsenal 'keeper announced his retirement from international duty following Euro 2008 but was expected to make a farewell appearance against Fabio Capello's side in Berlin on 19 November. But Löw has opted against using the 38-year-old.

"We have to use our international games to give our young goalkeepers as much playing time as possible. Sure it would have been nice for Jens to run out in the national team jersey one more time," he told Kicker magazine.

"Especially against England, where he played five years for Arsenal and in the Olympiastadion, where we had to thank him for advancing from the World Cup quarter-final against Argentina on penalties. But planning for the upcoming tasks has to take priority."

Over in Italy, Chievo Verona yesterday sacked their coach, Giuseppe Iachini, and appointed the former manager of Parma, Domenico Di Carlo.

The newly promoted club lost 3-0 at Palermo on Sunday and currently lie third from bottom in Serie A. Di Carlo was sacked by Parma in March, two months before the club were relegated from the top flight.

Chievo, who reached the Champions League qualifying round in 2006, spent one season in Serie B after being relegated from Serie A at the end of the 2006-07 season.

Fellow strugglers Bologna dismissed Daniele Arrigoni on Monday and replaced him with the former Lazio and Serbia defender Sinisa Mihajlovic, who was assistant manager at champions Internazionale last season.
