Romelu Lukaku ‘almost had a head loss’ during lockdown in Milan amid coronavirus pandemic

Romelu Lukaku admits he “almost had a head loss” as he continues to deal with quarantine in Milan due to the coronavirus.

Lukaku, 26, who is located in the pandemic’s European epicentre, is attempting to maintain fitness after Serie A was suspended 10 days ago due to the covid-19 outbreak.

And the Belgian has revealed how Inter Milan are trying to retain the players’ sharpness until the league resumes, with a nine-point gap to champions Juventus, though Antonio Conte’s side do have a game in hand.

“I almost had a head loss yesterday,” Lukaku told Ian Wright in a conversation for his YouTube channel. “I can’t go outside, I can’t go shopping. I’m locked up.

“Now it’s been nine days. They got me a bike, all the players live in the city centre, I didn’t have space, so they said in the group chat, ‘who doesn’t have a bike or a treadmill in the house?’ Two hours later they brought everybody a bike.

“I just miss the regular life, being with my Mum, being with my son, being with my brother. I’m thinking about everybody. It’s bad, you can’t have normal contact with human beings. I miss training and playing games in front of fans. Now you start to appreciate what you have.

“I’m a lucky guy. For me right now makes me rethink what I was going through as a kid.”

Lukaku is passing the time at home by watching plenty of television (Power, Top Boy, YouTube series All The Smoke, comedy from Dave Chapelle and Richard Pryor) and playing against his Inter teammates at Call of Duty on the PlayStation.

But Lukaku is also contending with the need to avoid his mother as a precaution due to the virus.

“Now you have to be careful, you might touch somebody who has the virus, then I go home,” Lukaku emphasised. “My Mum has diabetes, so I can’t even go home and touch her. My Mum isn’t even going home now.

“She’s the one, me and my brother were like, ‘you’re not going out’. Late at night she makes a walk and then she comes back.

“I’m with my physiotherapist. They bring me food every time, I’m on a strict diet. Every day at 12, they send us food to keep our diet. I’m still on fish and veggies.”
