Barcelona will take on Real Madrid for the first time this season on December 18, La Liga have confirmed.

El Clasico will kick off at 7pm GMT (8pm local time) after the initial date scheduled for October 26 was postponed due to security issues in Catalonia, sparked due to Catalan seperatist leaders sentenced to jail.

December 18 was originally problematic due to television clashes with the Copa del Rey and Club World Cup.

It means La Liga's top two sides will now meet at the Nou Camp in a pivotal contest due to the most open title race in recent memory.

Ernesto Valverde's side are top on goal difference ahead of Zinedine Zidane's outfit.

While Atletico Madrid and Sevilla remain just one point behind.
