Chris Froome injury news: Ineos rider has more surgery after cutting tendon in thumb with kitchen knife

Chris Froome is still recovering from his major crash earlier this year but he was back in hospital this weekend to undergo surgery on his thumb after cutting a tendon using a kitchen knife.
The Ineos rider’s season was scuppered by the serious incident at the Criterium du Dauphine where he crashed into a wall at 50km/hr during a training ride.
He was treated in intensive care in St Etienne before eventually returning home to the UK to recuperate, meaning he missed out on challenging for a fifth yellow jersey at the Tour de France.
On Saturday, Froome posted a picture on social media smiling in a hospital bed with the thumb on his left hand bandaged.
“Stupidly cut my thumb with a kitchen knife and had to have surgery to put the tendon back together last night. Stuck giving a thumbs up for a couple of weeks,” he tweeted. ”This is not my year. Can’t wait for 2020.”
