Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder III: Frank Warren says trilogy fight could take place in October

Warren added that there was no chance of the trilogy fight happening behind closed doors

Frank Warren has admitted that it will be “very difficult” for WBC heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury to take on Anthony Joshua next, instead suggesting October as a potential month for a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder.

Fury sensationally stopped Wilder in the seventh-round of their rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to take the previously undefeated American’s WBC title.

That led to speculation Fury could next fight domestic rival Joshua for the unified heavyweight world titles, but despite initially suggesting such a bout could happen, Warren has now admitted that Wilder has trigged a clause in their second-fight contract for an immediate rematch.

“Tyson’s contractual obligation was to have a third match with Wilder so it’s very difficult to talk about Joshua,” Warren told the BBC.

It has been previously reported that a third fight between Fury and Wilder could take place on the 18 July in Las Vegas — although that date has now been ruled out because of the global coronavirus pandemic.

And Warren has said that the trilogy fight could now take place in October.

“The 18th will not happen,” added Warren, who also confirmed that the fight will not take place behind closed doors.

“The commission in Nevada has said ‘no boxing’ for the foreseeable future and Las Vegas has closed down all the casinos – it’s like a ghost town there.

“No-one knows what’s happening day to day, all we can do is hope for the best and push it back as far as possible so October looks like the date for the fight.

“A fight between them behind closed doors just won’t happen – these guys are too big names to be fighting behind closed doors.”
