OJ Simpson announces that he's joining Twitter

OJ Simpson has launched a Twitter account with a series of video posts in which he claims he has some “getting even to do”.

The former NFL star – who was ordered by a US civil court to pay tens of millions of dollars over the wrongful deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman – said he would now be able to “challenge” what people said about him.

“For years people have been able to say what they want to say about me, with no accountability,” Simpson said in one of the video messages. “But now I get to challenge a lot of that BS and set the record straight.

“It should be a lot of fun, and I got a little getting even to do,” he added. He did not elaborate on who exactly he wanted to get even with.

His official account had gathered almost 500,000 followers within hours of its launch.

The former actor pledged to reveal his thoughts and opinions on “just about everything” and said he would talk about “sports, fantasy football and even politics”.

Simpson has generally kept a low profile since his release from prison in October 2017 for robbery and kidnapping over an attempt to steal back some of his sports memorabilia from a Las Vegas hotel room.

He was acquitted of murder after Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were stabbed to death in 1994.

The televised trial riveted the nation and raised unresolved questions about racism, celebrity and the US criminal justice system.

In 1997 he was ordered to pay to pay $33.5m (£26.6m) after a civil jury found him liable for the wrongful deaths of the two victims.

Simpson has continued to declare his innocence in the two slayings. The murder case is officially listed as unsolved.

Relatives of the two victims have expressed disgust that Simpson is able to live the way he does.

In his recent interview, Simpson said that neither he nor his children want to talk about the killings ever again.

“My family and I have moved on to what we call the ‘no-negative zone’. We focus on the positives,” he said.
