Donald Trump Jr has been roundly mocked on social media for urging people to buy a Trump-branded teddy bear as a Valentine’s Day present.

The US president’s eldest child called for people to get the stuffed toy which is wearing a white Trump-embossed bathrobe instead of roses.

Mr Trump Jr shared a photo of the bear riding a Trump plane which can be bought online.

His plug included a link to the website for the official Trump Store which is currently advertising “Gifts we love for Valentine’s Day” on its homepage.

The younger Trump has been lambasted for promoting the product on Twitter and some went so far as to quip that buying their loved one the bear would result in divorce or a breakup.

Both men and women said they struggled to imagine any partner finding the gift touching or seductive and argued it was overly corporate.

“If I was to give someone I love these items, it is grounds for a breakup or divorce!” said Twitter user, Richard Skipper.

“Nothing says 'please divorce me' like giving your loved one a trump spa teddy bear for Valentine's Day,” said Jane Reed.

Mr Trump Jnr also posted about Valentines Day last year. He shared a photo of a rose petal scattered bed covered with a swan and a love heart made out of what appears to be white towels.

Mr Trump Jr has become famed for his social media blunders over the years. Last December, he came under fire for mocking his father's predecessor Barack Obama by posting a photo of him and Ted Cruz posing with a gigantic cookie featuring a distorted image of the former US president.

In November, he urged people to vote in the Virginia elections on the wrong day and may have inadvertently impeded the proper electoral process. He encouraged his 2.2 million Twitter followers to go out and vote on Wednesday despite the fact the greatly anticipated race took place on Tuesday.

In the same month, he was mocked for saying he would teach his daughter Chloe about socialism by taking away some of her Halloween sweets. The tweet amassed over 50,000 replies within hours, with many pointing out that he was not describing socialism but was referring to sharing - an activity the majority of children are taught to do.
