Swan smashes into car window

A video has emerged of the frightening moment a swan smashes into the windscreen of a moving car.

Dashcam footage, recorded in Holyfields in Newcastle upon Tyne, shows the large bird flying directly into the glass as the vehicle moves down a suburban road.

The impact causes the windscreen to shatter but stay intact.

The incident was captured on 23 December as Emily Keady, 21, drove her Citroen Berlingo van to work.

Keady, a professional dog walker, can be heard gasping for breath and screaming during the impact, along with a passenger repeating their disbelief.

Despite the apparent severity of the accident, the white swan was found to be unharmed.

Keady was left stunned by the experience but also unhurt.

Her father Andrew Keady, 56, said that after the incident they had “got in contact with the RSPCB and RSPCA but they said there was nothing they could really do.”

“If it was up walking about pretending like nothing had happened then I suppose it was alright.

”It didn't do too much in the way of damage. She was able to replace the screen the next day,” he added.
