Countdown to Brexit: How many days left until Britain leaves the EU?

Vince Cable's Liberal Democrats are to launch their European elections campaign manifesto today under the blunt slogan: "Bollocks to Brexit".

In an unequivocally anti-Brexit document, the party calls for the "failed project" of Britain's withdrawal from the European Union to be disbanded.

It sets out a "blueprint for what the UK could achieve if Brexit was stopped" according to the Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince, who will formally unveil the manifesto this evening in east London.

A special edition of the manifesto has the words "Bollocks to Brexit" – a familiar message of enthusiastic Remain campaigners – emblazoned across the front cover while a second edition offers "stop Brexit" as its slogan for activists after a less crude message to deliver to voters on the doorstep.

Sir Vince will also outline his desire for an emergency £7.5bn support fund for those affected by Brexit uncertainty, and increased cooperation with European allies in "tackling the climate emergency" facing the planet.

"Liberal Democrats were the first major political party to call for a zero-carbon Britain; we believe this target must be met by 2045, contributing to a zero-carbon EU by 2050," it adds.

Speaking this evening Sir Vince will tell the party faithful that the Liberal Democrats are "unambiguous and honest", insisting: "We want to stop Brexit".

He will add: "The Conservatives have let their internal feud divide the country while Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party has set out the biggest issue facing our country in decades.

"Only as members of the EU can we take the big steps we need on climate change, protect consumers and build a strong economy. Our manifesto sets out a clear and positive vision for the UK within the EU, and we can achieve it by stopping Brexit.

“The Liberal Democrats, with over 100,000 members and 2,500 councillors across the country, are the strongest Remain voice going into the European Elections. Every Liberal Democrat vote is a vote to stop Brexit.”
