A woman is facing prison time after being convicted of trying to have sex with a sleeping younger man who was unable to consent.

Glasgow Sheriff court heard Elizabeth Barr, 40, pounced on the 27-year-old, whom she had met a few hours earlier, at a flat in Easterhouse, Glasgow.

The pair had gone to the flat with others but were eventually alone in the living room.

She is said to have then sexually assaulted the man, leaving him in tears.

A woman at the flat said she was later in bed when the man came to the room door after the September 2016 attack.

Prosecutor Harry Findlay asked the witness: “How did he appear?”

She replied: “He was crying.”

Barr was arrested after police were alerted to the assault.

During the trial, Barr maintained that anything that happened between the pair was consensual and the victim had “panicked” because he had cheated on his girlfriend.

Giving evidence during the trial, she claimed it was the man who had initiated sex.

“He picked up his phone and his face fell,” she said. ”He said: 'I need to call a taxi. I need to go home'. He was panicking about his girlfriend finding out he had cheated.

“I said either tell her the truth or tell her nothing.”

Barr was put on the sex offenders’ register and her bail was continued, pending sentencing at a later date.
