CCTV footage shows moment man thrown into air after being hit by stolen car

CCTV footage has shown the moment a man was thrown into the air after he was hit by the driver of a stolen car in Southampton.

Tom Carey was injured when Gentjan Lalaj crashed a Volvo into him during a police chase on 27 March.

Mr Carey, a utilities surveyor who was marking a pavement before he was struck, spent twelve days in hospital with broken bones and a torn liver.

“I’m left with a serious injury for the rest of my life,” he said.

Mr Carey said he had suffered night terrors twice a week: “I remember the noise of the car tyres screeching, which made me turn round.”

Lalaj has been jailed for three years with a six-and-a-half year driving ban, after being convicted of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
