Pope greeted by Obama on historic first visit to the USA

Pope Francis touched down in the United States yesterday, immediately greeted by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. The 266th head of the Roman Catholic Church now starts his six-day tour of the nation.

Excitement is growing across the nation and Twitter is getting in on the action by creating a series of Pope-themed emojis. Users can tweet the following four hashtags to view them: #PopeinUS, #PopeinDC, #PopeinNYC, #PopeinPhilly. Each drops an image of Pope Francis in front of the U.S. flag, Capitol Hill, the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell.

Others have taken to the street to celebrate the visit. 100 women, all of them immigrants, set out on a 100-mile journey to Washington D.C. to demonstrate their support for Pope Francis and his positive message in support of migrants. Watch their journey below.

The walk was part of the "We Belong Together" project, an immigration reform campaign coordinated by the National Domestic Workers Alliance and the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum.
