Know anyone who has trouble being accepted for a bank account? A new fee-free basic account, launched in January, is available for those who are ineligible for a full-service current account – such as those with poor credit histories.

The product is easy to set up and free of most fees. It has all the standard features of a current account except you cannot go into the red.

Eight banks and one building society offer the account. The Money Advice Service has a printable guide to fee-free basic bank accounts available online at bit.ly/1VV6JXw.

Send credit to family abroad

Want to help friends or family travelling abroad to keep in touch? Lycamobile has a new Airtime Transfer Service that allows you to transfer credit instantly to people on any network. It could be particularly attractive to parents, who can pass on pay-as-you-go credit to children travelling overseas.

To send credit, you can either dial a short code or log into an online account. The amount transferred will automatically be converted into the currency of the user's destination.

To order a SIM or just find out more about the bundles available, go to Lycamobile.com.

Currencies in Asda's aisles
