Prince Harry announces 'I'm a feminist' during royal visit with Meghan Markle

‘Prince Harry highlighted that it is equally important for men to support the movement in female empowerment’

Prince Harry has said that he’s a feminist while visiting a women’s support charity with Meghan Markle.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex first met, they bonded quickly over their shared passions in humanitarian work.

That’s not the only interest that they share, as Prince Harry has echoed his wife’s former statements by advocating for gender equality.

While visiting Tomorrow’s Women Wirral in Birkenhead, the couple spoke to members of the organisation about the charity’s purpose as a centre for women who want to make “positive lifestyle changes”.

“During a discussion about Tomorrow’s Women Wirral being a women’s only centre Prince Harry, to our delight, declared ‘I’m a feminist’ and highlighted that it is equally important for men to support the movement in female empowerment!” says Angela Murphy, CEO of the charity.

“A standpoint we wholly agree with, as there is no divide between men and women in regard to this issue.”

The Duchess of Sussex has previously spoken about her husband’s stance on feminism.

During the couple’s first official visit to Wales in January 2018, the duchess informed a well-wisher that Prince Harry is “a feminist too”.

In 2015, the duchess spoke at the UN in celebration of International Women’s Day.

“I am proud to be a woman and a feminist,” she said during her speech, a sentiment that has also been included on her profile on the royal family’s official website.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were very attentive during their visit to Tomorrow’s Women Wirral, communications officer Sharna Kennedy tells The Independent.

“We were truly delighted by the visit as a whole,” she says.

“It will be memorable to ourselves and the women forever. Meghan and Harry were both so genuinely interested in the stories that had led the women to Tomorrow’s Women and how the centre was able to help them.

“They were both so warm, initiated conversations, engaged with and shook hands or made some contact with every woman in the rooms they visited! It truly was an honour to be their host!”

During the couple’s first official royal visit of 2019, the duchess reportedly confirmed she’s six months pregnant.

According to several royal reporters, Markle told a woman in the crowd that she’s expecting to give birth in April.

She also revealed that she doesn’t know the sex of the baby, as she wants to keep it a “surprise”.
