Victoria’s Secret models captured singing racist slur backstage in Twitter video

A short clip of Victoria’s Secret models singing a racist slur has sparked outrage online.

The video, which appears to have been taken from a backstage vlog uploaded by Karlie Kloss, was posted on Twitter on Wednesday and shows a number of models singing along to “Bodak Yellow” by Florida-based rapper Cardi B.

One of the lines in the popular song, which the women can be heard singing, is "I don’t wanna choose and I’m quick to cut a n***** off".

However, the moment in which the models sing this line seems to have been cut from the YouTube video posted by Kloss.

As if this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and its models hadn’t been embroiled in enough scandal already, the offending clip has prompted a furore of vexed responses on Twitter.

Critics have pointed out that there appeared to be no black models in the room in which they were singing.

“If you’re not black, don’t say the N word. Point. Blank. Period,” wrote one Tweeter.

“All white ones cancelled for saying the n word,” added another.

Cardi B herself has even weighed in on the contentions, retweeting a version of the clip to her 1.7m followers.

This latest scandal is just one in a sea of controversies that have surrounded the annual lingerie fashion show, which took place on Monday 20 November.

Earlier this month it was revealed that two-time VS model Gigi Hadid would not be taking to the catwalk in Shanghai, where this year’s show took place, after she announced that she had been cast in August.

Though her reasons for pulling out were never confirmed, many speculated that it was due to Chinese visa restrictions, which reportedly also prevented Katy Perry from performing at the show.
