Prince Harry announces birth of a baby boy

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have officially welcomed their first child, a boy weighing 7lbs 3oz.

Following the arrival of the newest royal baby, the couple has received an outpouring of well-wishes and congratulatory messages from around the world.

Among those congratulating the couple are A-listers, politicians, and celebrities from both sides of the pond.

Dominican fashion house Oscar de la Renta dedicated an Instagram post to the duke and duchess on Instagram, sharing a photo of Meghan Markle in an Oscar de la Renta gown with the caption: “Congratulations to Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry who welcomed a baby boy this morning!”

Ellen DeGeneres also expressed her joy on Twitter, writing: "The royal baby is here! Congratulations, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

"The baby is 7th in line for the throne, which is crazy, because right now I'm 7th in line for the key-making kiosk at my grocery store."

The cast of Suits, the TV show Meghan Markle previously starred in, congratulated their former colleague and Prince Harry as well.

"The entire Suits family sends their congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, on the birth of their baby boy," the cast wrote on the official Twitter account.

Liam Payne also took to Twitter to congratulate the couple, writing: "Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of your baby boy. So happy for the both of you."

Prime Minister Theresa May wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the arrival of their baby boy.

“Wishing you all the best at this happy time.”

Former First Lady Michelle Obama also took a moment to express well-wishes from her and her husband Barack, writing on Twitter: "Congratulations, Meghan and Harry! Barack and I are so thrilled for both of you and can't wait to meet him."

Jeremy Corbyn also shared his well-wishes, writing on Twitter: “Congratulations to Meghan and Harry on the birth of their baby. I hope they’re all doing well. #royal baby.”

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon tweeted: “The birth of a baby is a joyful occasion - congratulations to Harry and Meghan.”

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who married the couple last May, said on Twitter: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their baby boy.

“May God bless the new family with love, health and happiness.”

Other members of the royal family were among the first to congratulate the couple.

“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news,” a statement from the official Twitter account reads, before adding that the duchess’s mother Doria Ragland is “overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild”.

On Instagram, the Duke of York offered his congratulations, writing: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the safe delivery of your baby boy!”
