Robin Williams' son names first child after his late father

'We are beyond thrilled he chose us to be his parents'

Robin Williams’ eldest son has named his newborn child after his late father.

Zak Williams, 36, and his fiancé Olivia June welcomed their first child on 22 May.

The couple have revealed that they have chosen the name McLaurin Clement Williams for their son.

The moniker pays tribute to Zak’s father whose middle name was McLaurin.

It is understood the couple will call the baby Mickey for short.

On Wednesday, June announced the arrival of the couple’s first child on Instagram with a series of photographs taken by Zak's younger sister Zelda.

“Introducing you to my little family!” the businesswoman captioned the images.

“My fiancé, Zak, and I were so happy to welcome baby McLaurin to the world on May 22nd.

“We are beyond thrilled he chose us to be his parents, and obviously think he’s the best, smartest, and cutest baby ever!!”

Zelda also shared the images to her Instagram accounting, writing: “News is finally out: I’m an auntie!

“Meet Mclaurin Clement Williams, aka Mickey, aka Dr. Baby! He’s a squishably cute pterodactyl cooing tiny wonder and I love him so much already.”

The news comes almost five years after comedian Williams died at the age of 63.

The Jumanji star was found dead in the bedroom of his home in Tiburon, California, on Sunday 10 August 2014.

At the time, William’s wife Susan Schneider said in a statement: “I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken.”

Asking the press and public to respect the family's privacy, she added: “It is our hope the focus will not be on Robin's death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."
