Prince Harry says 'no one is perfect' as he launches global initiative to encourage more environmentally friendly travel

The Duke of Sussex has said that "no one is perfect" in an impassioned speech about the importance of environmentally friendly travel.

Prince Harry is currently in Amsterdam overseeing the launch of a sustainable travel initiative, with the aim of "encouraging sustainable tourism practices" across the industry.

While promoting the "Travalyst" campaign – which has been launched in collaboration with travel companies including Booking.com, Ctrip, Skyscanner, TripAdvisor and Visa – the duke spoke at Amsterdam's A'dam Tower about the "responsibility" of every consumer for the environment.

"Sometimes the scale of the conservation crisis feels overwhelming and that individual actions can't make a difference," the royal said.

"I've certainly felt that – but I've learned that we cannot dismiss the idea of trying to do something, just because we can't do everything. We can all do better."

The duke continued, saying that while "no one is perfect", "we are all responsible for our own individual impact".

"The question is what we do to balance it out," Prince Harry added.

The royal cited several of the greatest environmental challenges the world is facing, including deforestation, loss of biodiversity, the excessive amount of plastic in the ocean and poaching, problems which he said "can sometimes seem too big to fix".

The Duke of Sussex's speech comes shortly after he and the Duchess of Sussex faced criticism for flying on private jets four times over the course of 11 days during the summer.

The duke did not directly reference the criticism he and the duchess received during his speech.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are soon due to visit southern Africa with their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, as part of a royal tour.

In a recent post shared on the royal couple's Instagram account, Prince Harry stated that he "can't wait" to introduce Meghan and Archie to South Africa.

"In just a few weeks our family will be taking its first official tour to Africa, a region of the world that over the past two decades has been a second home to me," the duke wrote in the Instagram caption.
