Oscars 2019: Richard E. Grant can’t contain excitement as he shares selfies with Barbra Streisand, Emma Stone and Samuel L. Jackson
The Oscar-nominated actor described Barbra Streisand as ‘everything I’d dreamt she’d be’
The actor, who received the Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, was beaming as he documented his celebrity encounters throughout the evening.
Among those Grant took selfies with included Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, The Favourite actor Emma Stone and comedians Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph, who opened the host-less ceremony with a comedy segment.
The highlight of the night for Grant was when he came face-to-face with Barbra Streisand, who he has idolised since his teens.
“Being Oscar nominated was pretty amazing, but meeting with @barbrastreisand and having a proper conversation was an absolute astonishment. 40 carat gold,” he tweeted.
In January, the actor shared a letter on Twitter that he’d written Streisand as a 14-year-old boy, in which he offered for her to enjoy a “two-week holiday, or longer” at his family’s home in Eswatini, formerly Swaziland, where he was born.
Streisand promptly responded, thanking him for his “wonderful letter” and congratulating him on the recognition he’s received for Can You Ever Forgive Me?.
After meeting Streisand at the Oscars, Grant tweeted that she was “everything I’d hoped, expected and dreamt she’d be”.
Several of Grant’s fans have expressed their delight over the actor’s star-studded Oscar selfies.
“When all is said and done about the 2019 Oscars, I think it’s safe to say that no one had a better night, so in the end, you won!” one person tweeted.
“Your unmitigated joy is so infectious!!” another added.
Grant wore a red jacket by Italian fashion designer Brunello Cucinelli for the Oscars.
The gong for Best Supporting Actor, for which he was nominated, was awarded to Mahershala Ali for his performance in Best Picture winner Green Book.
