Miley Cyrus has spoken out about her sexuality in a new interview, explaining people find it “confusing” she’s in a heterosexual marriage despite still being attracted to women.

The singer, who wed actor Liam Hemsworth last year, described her relationship as “modern”, “complex” and “unique”.

Speaking to Elle Magazine, Cyrus said: “I think it’s very confusing to people that I’m married” .

“But my relationship is unique. And I don’t know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it’s so complex, and modern, and new that I don’t think we’re in a place where people would get it.”

The singer went on to criticise those who’ve suggested she conforms to stereotypical gender roles because she has married a man.

“I mean, do people really think that I’m at home in a f***ing apron cooking dinner?” she said, adding: “I’m in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women.”

Cyrus proceeded to use a metaphor regarding vegetarianism to explain her sexuality: “People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still f***ing good, and I know that,” she told the publication.

“I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don’t fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don’t even like that word.”

It’s not the first time Cyrus has spoken out about her sexuality in relation to her marriage to Hemsworth.

In February, the 26-year-old wrote about what it feels like to be a “queer person” in a “hetero relationship” in a personal essay for Vanity Fair, describing how her marriage to Hemsworth is “redefining” gender norms.

“The reason that people get married sometimes can be old-fashioned, but I think the reason we got married isn’t old-fashioned – I actually think it’s kind of New Age,” she explained.

“What I preach is: People fall in love with people, not gender, not looks, not whatever. What I’m in love with exists on almost a spiritual level.”
