Lady Gaga has announced that she will “fully fund” classroom projects in US cities affected by recent shootings, including Dayton, Ohio, El Paso, Texas and Gilroy, California.

The singer wrote a letter on Facebook explaining that her “heart goes out” to victims of the recent shootings and their families.

“My heart goes out to those who were taken from us too soon and to their families, loved ones and communities who are left to grieve,” Gaga wrote.

“Everyone has the right to laws that make them feel safe in their communities. In this moment, I want to channel my confusion, frustration, and fury into hope. Hope that we are there for each other and for ourselves.”

The musician explained she is partnering with nonprofit organisation DonorsChoose.org to provide funding to 162 classrooms in total so they can “have access to the support they need to inspire their students to work together and bring their dreams to life”.

Gaga continued: "Surviving and recovering from these tragedies also means prioritising your mental health and checking in on your loved ones. If you’re struggling, please be brave and tell a trusted someone. Don’t be scared to ask for help, I beg you.”

The singer also offered some advice to those who might notice a loved one suffering, urging them to “be brave and reach out” to support them.

“We cannot turn away from our loved ones,” she continued. “We need each other. Don’t turn away.”

On 28 July, a man opened fire at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California, killing three people and wounding 12. The following week on 3 August, a lone gunman killed 20 people and left more than two-dozen injured after a shooting at a shopping complex in El Paso, Texas. Hours later, at least nine people were killed in a mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio.

Gaga concluded her post with a dedication to victims, writing: “In loving memory of the victims of the tragic shootings in Dayton, OH, El Paso, TX, and Gilroy, CA.”
