British people are more likely to go to their mothers for advice on beauty, fashion and relationships than turn to online influencers, a survey claims.

The poll found 41 per cent of adults under the age of 45 believe children are more likely to get this advice from their mother, compared to 28 per cent who think they listen to bloggers instead.

Commissioned by centre:mk, the largest shopping centre in Milton Keynes, the study of 2,000 British people found many people take on life mottos passed down by their mothers.

The most common mottos passed down include ”believe in yourself”, “there is no such word as can’t” and “treat others as you would like to be treated”.

Beauty tips such as “moisturise daily” and “always take your make-up off before bed” are also typically passed on by mothers.

The study also found six in ten of those surveyed have passed their mother’s advice onto their own children.

However, over 40 per cent of female respondents said the advice they no longer take from their mothers is to “let the man pay on the first date”.

And two in five of female respondents agreed that fashion and beauty advice shared between mothers and daughters is a “two-way street”.
