Sarah Jessica Parker says shopping gives her anxiety

Anyone that has ever watched an episode of Sex and the City will know that protagonist Carrie Bradshaw is obsessed with shopping, particularly when it comes to shoes.

However actor Sarah Jessica Parker, who played the fictional character for six seasons and two films, doesn’t share the same fascination.

Parker has revealed that she finds shopping to be anxiety-inducing.

“I’m not a crazy shopper and haven’t been for many years,” the actor told Australian radio host Fifi Box on the Melbourne-based show Fifi, Fev & Byron Show.

Parker revealed that, unlike her Sex and the City character, she thinks twice before spending money on clothes.

"Shopping can sometimes give me anxiety. I feel bad, do you know what I mean?” Parker said.

“I buy something and I’m like, ‘uh do I really need that? Will I want that in five years? Is that going to look good on me in five years?'

“You know I keep thinking like, ‘Oh, what about when I retire?'," Parker added, before stating that her husband, fellow actor Matthew Broderick, thinks the couple will never quit their jobs.

When asked if she had a love of shoes before taking on the role of Carrie Bradshaw, Parker told Fifi that nobody’s relationship with footwear could compare to that of the iconic character.

“I always say it’s like a fever for her,” Parker said.

“I don’t mean that in a judgemental way, it was just one of her passions.”

Parker hasn’t completely distanced herself from the fashion world. She was in Australia to launch her eponymous shoe line, SJP Collection.

After launching the range in the US in 2014 and in the UK three years later, the actor has taken her designs Down Under where they will be sold exclusively at David Jones stores.
