The demand for a seriously stylish home has given rise to new opportunities for fashion designers and homeware brands to work together.

And, if you’re a fan of eccentric and playful aesthetics, you’re going to be counting down the days to the launch of this one.

This week, Habitat announced that is launching a new line of home furnishings in collaboration with Shrimps – a British fashion brand best known for its fabulous faux fur, hand-drawn characters and lively colour palette.

Coming in September – exact details of the launch are being kept under wraps – the collection has been inspired by some of the brand’s most popular designs, says Hannah Weiland, founder and creative director of Shrimps.

“We’ve gone back to the archives for this collaboration, bringing together artworks and ideas from different seasons, reworking our favourite characters and designs that have all been part of the Shrimps family over the years,” says Weiland.

“There’s quite an ethereal theme behind the collection - make-believe creatures, Venetian jesters, doodled faces – based around a palette of pink and red, interspersed with pops of gold and Breton stripes.

“We’ve interpreted these ideas across a series of textiles with different production techniques, from hand-woven rugs and crewelwork cushions to digital print bedding and screen-printed dhurries.

“And, you never know, faux fur might be making an appearance...”

Speaking to Vogue, Habitat’s head of design, Kate Butler, shared her enthusiasm about the two brands coming together.

“I’ve been a fan of Hannah’s work with Shrimps for years, so it’s been a bit of a dream to work with her on this collection and translate her artwork for the home,” Butler said.

“This new collection with Shrimps is all about making a statement. It’s elegant, eccentric and a lot of fun, and something that I think will really get both the interiors and fashion worlds talking.”
