Last night London hosted the annual Evening Standard Theatre Awards at the Old Vic, crowning Nicole Kidman for her role in Photograph 51 and James McAvoy for his role in The Ruling Class

Fans gathered outside the iconic theatre to catch a glimpse of acting royalty, as top stars paraded on the red carpet in their best black tie attire - and the chilly three degree temperature didn't stop female stars posing in their fabulous designer gowns.

Salma Hayek and nominee for Best Actress, Nicole Kidman, both opted to wear designs by Alexander McQueen - Hayek a white statement collar design and Kidman in a monochrome gown.

Kate Beckinsale wore a printed floating dress from Alberta Ferrett while rising star Gemma Chan looked sleek in Ermanno Scervino.
