Christmas party season is almost upon us and our diaries are beginning to fill up with events that call for festive fashion flair.

In fact, there are so many, that a whole new wardrobe can often seem like the only option.

But, while we encourage you to invest in a new party dress – or two – there are always ways to elevate existing ensembles so that they feel fresh once more.

Of course, there’s no harm in recycling your go-to LBD or jazzy jumpsuit year after year, but throwing in some statement accessories can be a simple and effective way to make sure no one clocks that you’re repeating your outfit.

Here, we take a look at some of the key items you should invest in to upgrade your party wear and equip you for the month ahead.

Fancy footwear

If your go-to outfit for the party season is lacking in lustre, there is a way to give a nod to the festivities without going OTT (over the top): a pair of showstopping shoes.

The ultimate accessory, the right footwear has the power to completely transform your entire look, and this year the high street is brimming with choices to cater for every taste.

From crystal-embellishment to shimmering metallics and glittering courts, even the most monotonous party wear options don’t stand a chance against these tried-and-tested trends.

If you’d rather invest in a pair of shoes that will last beyond Christmas though, we suggest opting for a classic style that’s reimagined in decadent textures like velvet, which promises to stay stylish all winter long.

Stilettos aren’t your only option either. If you’re the kind of woman that makes a beeline for the dance floor don’t be afraid to keep your feet firmly on the ground with a pair of fancy flats swathed in the same covetable touches as their high-heeled counterparts.

Finding a carrier that’s fitting for all manner of Christmas do’s can be proven tricky.

It needs to be large enough to house all your essentials, compliment most things in your party-ready wardrobe and come with a strap long enough to drape over you shoulder when it’s time to hit the dance floor.

For these reasons, a pint-sized cross-body bag that’s both fashionable and functional is your go-to option. The key here is to invest in one that, while compact and lightweight, will make an impact, and for this reason seasonal fabrics like velvet or those emblazoned with beads are the real winners.

Make sure you get the most out of yours by wearing it post-party season with off-duty daytime outfits like plain white T-shirts and jean combos.

Fine jewellery

When it comes to party season it can feel like the goal is to become a walking-talking disco ball; simply pile on everything including sparkly earrings, bejewelled hair clips, twinkly rings and bright bracelets, and you’re done.

However, we suggest erring on the side of caution here. The aforementioned accessories are all completely admissible but as separate entities, so keep it simple.

Glass Stone Earrings, £35, & Other Stories

A pair of earrings will provide all the sparkle you need for the festive season and with so many options available, there’s bound to be something out there to suit your style.

From jewel-encrusted hoops to shoulder-sweeping styles and delicate drop earrings, the right pair will naturally sashay with your hair and peek out at just the right moment.
