While showers most certainly have their perks, when it comes to melting away the day’s stresses, only a bath will do.

The clocks went back last Sunday and with it came a drop in temperatures, meaning we need to turn our attention to staying warm and cosy while we can.

The solution? Turning your tub into a truly luxurious and relaxing experience.

In today’s hurried living, wallowing in a hot bath each night can feel like a spurge in itself, but trust us when we say that investing in a few pampering products will get rid of your winter blues.

From hydrating body oils to muscle-soothing salts and sensuous soaks, the only bath worth taking this winter is a luxurious one.

Of course, you don’t need all of the components at once, seeing as many of them accomplish the same things, but feel free to experiment with any combination you see fit to keep your skin feeling soft and your senses soothed.

Candles

Jo Malone, Red Roses Candle, £23, Jo Malone

Baths are all about relaxation and what use is soaking in the tub if you don’t get the ambience just right? Every good bath should begin with the lighting of a scented candle to transform your entire bathroom into a chamber of pure indulgence.

One of our favourites to wind down with, is Jo Malone’s Red Roses Candle which is made with a voluptuous blend of seven of the world’s most exquisite roses. A scent that boasts mood-uplifting properties, it will leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Bath Oils

Aromatherapy Associates, Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil, £49, Space NK

While a steaming hot bath might offer temporary comfort on cold nights it can also exacerbate dryness so it’s important to keep your skin moisturised.

That’s where bath oils come in. One of the most decadent additions you can give your bath water is a luxury product formulated with a blend of aromatic essential oils that will soothe both the body and mind.

Aromatherapy Associates should be your go-to in this category, particularly its Deep Relax Bath and Shower Oil. Made with a blend of chamomile and vetiver, it promises to soothe tired muscles, calm down nerves and lull you into a sound sleep.

The winner of 10 beauty awards in the UK, it has been said to help with everything from insomnia to panic attacks.

Bath Salts

Therapie, Himalayan Detox Salts, £39, Cult Beauty

Bath salts have soared in popularity of late and for good reason. Crushed-up minerals that are soluble in water, they offer a whole host of benefits from combating stress and fatigue, to reducing inflammation, soothing infections and detoxifying your skin.

But, with so many types to choose from, it can be hard to know which one to pick.

One of the most popular options in the world of bath salts are the pretty pink ones, otherwise known as Himalayan. A particularly good detoxifier, these salts are ideal if your body is under stress as they work to counteract the electromagnetic energy we absorb from modern day gadgets.

Look to Therapie’s version which is blended with amethyst and essential oils from lemongrass, juniper and geranium.

Body Cleanser

Molton Brown, Vetiver & Grapefruit Bath and Shower Gel, £22, Feel Unique

Sure, whiling away the time in a tranquil bath is great but it’s important not to forget the main reason behind having one – getting clean.

But, since your bath is now a luxury one, only the best shower gel will do. One of our favourite brands for this, is Molton Brown which offers an extensive range of gels for both men and women.

For one that will invigorate your skin and senses, we suggest the Vetiver and Grapefruit Bath and Shower Gel which is infused with fragrant ingredients like cardamom, lychee, amber and white pepper.

Bath Bombs

Twilight Bath Bomb, £3.95, Lush

Now that you’re a grown up, bath time can feel less fun but, thankfully, there’s one brand that manages to perfectly straddle the line between novelty and indulgence; Lush.

Known for its range of fizzy bath bombs, simply choose the one with your favourite scent, drop into your tub and watch it effervesce before unleashing a burst of fragrant and soothing oils.

One of our favourites before bedtime is Twilight. Made with a combination of essential oils, including lavender, benzoin and tonka, it calms the body and mind to help you get a restful nights sleep.
