Baftas 2019: Cate Blanchett’s dress reminds Marvel fans of Infinity Stones
‘Infinity Blanchett is the Avengers sequel we deserve’
Not only did Blanchett's choice of elegant attire make her stand out on the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall, but it also drew comparisons with a very significant series of objects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Infinity Stones are made up of six gems of different colours in the comics and film franchise - blue, yellow, red, purple, green and orange.
Many found the parallel particularly noteworthy considering Blanchett's portrayal of goddess of death Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, the third film led by Chris Hemsworth's Thor in the MCU.
"Makes sense Hela would have an Infinity necklace," one person commented on Twitter.
"Surprise plot twist from #AvengersEndgame: looks like Hela recovers from her slight case of death, defeats Thanos and turns the Infinity Stones into a dress," film journalist Helen O'Hara tweeted.
The dress in question was designed by Scottish fashion designer Christopher Kane.
Blanchett accessorised the bold gown with jewellery by luxury Italian fashion jeweller Pomellato and black heels by Italian shoe designer Sergio Rossi.
In addition to the actor's eye-catching ensemble, numerous people watching the Baftas also praised Blanchett's decision to dye her naturally blonde locks brunette, a look that she unveiled on the red carpet.
"2019 is the year of brunette Cate Blanchett," one person tweeted.
"Crying over brunette Cate Blanchett, this is all I've ever wanted," another added.
