Acne Studios and Mulberry unveil new collaboration

Acne Studios and Mulberry have joined forces to create a new collection that celebrates the best of British and Swedish design.

The limited-edition range, which has been described as a “friendship collaboration” by the designer labels, includes a number of iconic styles given a fresh twist, including the Musubi bag by Acne and the Bayswater by Mulberry.

“This is a collection about friendship and our freedom as brands to do what we want to do,” says Jonny Johansson, creative director of Acne Studios.

“It is like a conversation between Acne Studios and Mulberry, one that is founded in mutual respect and a desire to make great product."

Thierry Andretta, CEO of Mulberry, agrees, describing the collaboration as a “perfect manifestation of the spirit of both brands”.

“It showcases Acne Studios’ wonderful Swedish design ethos and celebrates both the British heritage and modernity of Mulberry,” Andretta says.

The range combines classic styles and signature details from both brands to create something new, such as Acne Studio’s recognisable folded bow and the Mulberry tree emblem.

Mulberry’s celebrated Scotchgrain bags have been reimagined by the Acne Studios design team, with multiple leather buckle strap fastenings and oversized metal hardware.

The bag is available in messenger and mini cross-body satchel styles, and in pink or black crocodile print leather.

Elsewhere, Acne Studios’ Musubi bag, with its signature origami knot, is combined with the Mulberry Bayswater.

The bags also feature a new logo designed specifically for the collaboration with the letters of Acne Studios like leaves in Mulberry’s classic crest.

The wide leather knot is laced through the Bayswater in either regular or micro sizes, while detachable fabric straps come printed with the brands’ logos. It is available in oak, black or pink.

Alongside the bags, fashion fans will be pleased to learn there is also a range of small leather goods in Scotchgrain or pink grainy leather, including a laptop case, a medium sized pouch, a coin purse, a small zip-around wallet and a Scotchgrain lanyard.

“There is pure Swedishness and Englishness to the collection that I think twists the look in an interesting way,” explains Johansson.

“I like how they are practical and you also want to carry them. It feels good to make bags that are desirable and that also have purpose.”
