Rather than throw away bottled water and pay for another bottle at the airport, holidaymakers can freeze water to get it through airport security.

According to the TSA, frozen liquids are allowed through security as long as they are frozen solid when presented for screening.

Though if they are partially melted, slushy or have any liquid at the bottom of the container, they will not be allowed through.

On a thread on Quora, one user asks: "If you freeze a bottle of water, can you bring it through airport security?"

Another user replied, citing TSA regulations.

It's also possible to pack frozen perishables in carry-on or checked baggage in properly packed dry ice.

However, even if the item is permitted, it may not be allowed through the screening process.

The final decisions rests with the TSA on whether to allow any items onto the plane.
