Nobody wants to be the son or daughter who, in a state of panic on Father’s Day Eve, makes a frenzied trip to the off-licence to pick up a six pack of lager because, quite frankly, they’ve left it too late to buy anything better.

But we know it happens. That’s why we’ve put together this guide of the best gifts to treat your old man on June 19, and avoid the last minute rush. From solid brass corkscrews to vintage football shirts, none of the presents will set you back more than 50 quid.

1. Toffs Leicester City 1970s Retro Football Shirt: £36.99, Toffs

We’re not sure about you, but we think football shirts simply looked better in times gone by, what with their intricate crests and clean, minimal designs. It’s clearly a sentiment shared by Toffs, a UK brand specialising in high quality, accurate replicas of vintage shirts. The one we’ve chosen here, made out of 100 per cent cotton, is for the nation’s newly adopted second team, Leicester City, but the range of clubs and eras is huge – from Eighties’ Argentina to Accrington Stanley in the Fifties. Bear in mind that the shirts can take up to 28 days to manufacture, so order early.

2. Bodum Bistro Blade Grinder: £35, John Lewis

This might not be the most sophisticated coffee grinder on the market, but for its price, it’s one of the best around. And your pa doesn’t need to be barista to work it either – all it takes is one push of the button on the lid and the machine looks after the rest, creating impressively fine granules. Drinks on him.

One for the style-conscious oenophile (or a fan of any corked drink, for that matter), this corkscrew from British designer Tom Dixon is made from solid brass. It looks great, and is certainly sturdy enough for practical use. If you want to add to set, there’s a matching bottle opener available too.

4. Cluedo Nostalgia Edition Board Game: £35, Mr Porter

This special edition of the ever-popular whodunnit is based on one of the game’s earliest iterations, from all the way back in 1949 – it’s spot on for the board game enthusiast, especially if they grew up around this time. The wooden casing and classy apparatus inside ensures it will last for generations to come.

5. Ohh Deer Heisenberg Phrenology Cushion: £29.95, Ohh Deer

There’s certainly no shortage of Breaking Bad-themed merchandise on the market, but we think this quirkily designed cushion stands out from the crowd. It features the unmistakeable, profile silhouette of Walter White, housing everything which drove him to become the infamous Heisenberg. The cushion, which measure 43 x 43cm, is made using vegan materials.

7. Orbitkey Key Organiser: £25, Bear & Bear

Does your old man insist on taking an inordinate number of keys with him wherever he goes? Help him keep them all in check with this nifty leather organiser. No bigger than a pen knife, it will easily slot into their pocket, and can hold up to seven keys. 8. Black+Blum Flow Wine Rack: £28, IWOOT

If your dad sees himself as something of an amateur sommelier, there will probably be bottles of wine stacked up in improvised, not-entirely-fit-for-purpose storage spaces all over the house. This stainless steel, wall-mounted wine rack will help to organise the collection, while also adding some style to proceedings. Holds up to eight bottles.

9. Lancome Hypnose Homme Eau de Toilette: £42 for 50ml, Debenhams

Lavender is the presiding scent emanating from this eau de toilette – it’s quite an intense fragrance, too, which means they won’t need to use much of it each time to make an impact. The striking bottle shape means it looks good enough to leave out and not packed away into the bathroom cabinet, too.

Verdict

We’re a big fan of the shirts from Toffs, but of course, not every dad is into football. The Bodum Bistro Blade Grinder is great value for money.
