Fast track to pretty spring skin with a wash of blush high up on the cheekbone

From glossy sheeny cheeks at Alberta Ferretti and gleaming skin at Julien MacDonald, to a healthy, post holiday glow at Issa and luminous bright cheeks at Dolce & Gabbana, the spring summer 2016 catwalk was awash with blushed cheeks.

3. Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic Swish and Pop Blusher in The Climax: £30, Charlotte Tilbury

You can enliven dull skin with a swish of the outer bronze shade on top of the cheekbone and apply the central soft dusky pink to the apples of your cheeks. If you find a powder blush tricky to apply, a finger-dipping cream couldn't be easier. It's a completely wearable shade for all skin tones, but looks particularly pretty on pale English rose complexions and redheads. Darker or more olive skin tones will just need to build up the colour to get the same effect.

For a truly lit-from-within glow, liquid blushers, although trickier to apply, really do create a natural radiance. Long lasting, easy to blend, and water-resistant, Rose Glow gives a sheer delicate sheen to the skin. A pale, peachy pink, it's a gentle neutral to suit all skin tones.

Four delicate shades in a soft satin finish – peach, rose, berry and a pale ballerina pink – blend together to brighten the skin and give a really pretty gentle flush. The slanted brush makes it easy to sweep up over cheekbones for a quick and easy, foolproof blush.

7. YSL Fusion Ink Blush in 03 Spicy Vibes: £35, YSL

A burst of coral (in an unusual tube for a blusher), this tinted gel can be used as a sheer wash, or built-up for more of a pigment hit. Apply with the brush then blend with your fingertips, or use a blusher brush to apply in circular motions for a natural, rosy glow.

8. Rosie for Autograph Cream Blusher Romantic Flush: £14, Marks & Spencer

Silky soft and weightless, this velvety cream blush is finger-dippingly easy to apply – pop on the apples of the cheeks and sweep up to the temples. It dries to a soft powder finish and is ultra long-lasting. This pink gives the perfect outdoors, windy beach-walk flush to the cheeks.

9. Sisley Phyto-Blush Eclat in Pinky Coral: £51.50, Sisley

Not your average powder blush, this hi-tech formula contains protective rosehip and ginkgo biloba, as well as softening gardenia, mallow and linden. The light-reflecting powders give a soft focus effect and mother-of-pearl gives a slight iridescent glow. 10. Miss Sporty InstaGlow Blusher in Flushed Pink: £2.99, Superdrug

High street brands often perform unexpectedly well against luxury brands, but this one was a real surprise. Soft and velvety with a really good pigment, it applied well and stayed put. An absolute steal.

This two-shade complexion enhancer can be swirled together for a sheeny, luminous, peachy flush. Or, use the colours separately to highlight and contour. If you prefer your makeup natural this is the one for you – the nourishing silky formula gives a really delicate, pretty glow.

Verdict

English Mineral Make-up Blush in Bubblegum is stunning and one of the most wearable hot pinks I've seen in a long time – and rich pigment means it can really make an impact on darker skin tones. Rosie for Autograph Cream Blush in Romantic Flush is beautiful and great value for money. While Sisley's Phyto-Blush packs in hi-tech anti-ageing skincare benefits and a light-reflecting soft-focus effect. But pick of the best goes to Delilah for sumptuous packaging and a simply stunning coral shade that delivers an unbeatable glow to the skin.
