The walking dead season 10 teaser trailer

The Walking Dead will be on our screens in one form or another for many years to come, AMC has hinted.

Sarah Barnett, a chief for the channel, spoke about the future of the series and its spin-offs in an interview with The Los Angeles Times, when she revealed her team were “plotting a lot more ambition” for the show.

“I think there are endless stories to be told in this universe,” she said, adding: “There is a huge, un-snobby, high-taste-threshold fandom for this show that tell us they want to hear more stories.

Barnett said that new spin-offs will only be created if the quality is up to scratch.

“What we won’t do is make a weak version of The Walking Dead. We won’t imitate that. What we will do is look at a number of different formats and a number of different creative forms with a number of new and existing writers.”

The main show is currently on its 10th season and an eleventh has been announced.

Recent reports suggested that AMC was looking to end the show with season 12 following the departure of Danai Gurira, who has played Michonne since season three – she’ll leave in the final part of season 10, which begins next month.

Former showrunner Scott Gimple now serves as the chief creative officer and, under him, a new spin-off – The World Beyond – has been created (watch the trailer here).

He’ll also oversee a trilogy of films focused on Andrew Lincoln’s character Rick Grimes, who left The Walking Dead in season nine.

The show’s first spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead, will broadcats its seventh season later this year.
