Stranger Things - Season 3 official trailer

The first trailer for Stranger Things season three has been released by Netflix.

The streaming service has unveiled its first full look at the forthcoming batch of episodes, soundtracked by The Who song “Baba O’Riley”, and it features the reunion of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Max (Sadie Sink) and Will (Noah Schnapp) at the surprise birthday party of Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo).

Unlike season two, which was set around Halloween, season three is based in the summertime of 1985 as the town of Hawkins, Indiana prepares for 4 July celebrations – the same day episodes will become available to stream – and it soon becomes clear the characters have done some growing up.

“We’re not kids anymore,” Mike says at one stage, adding: “I mean what did you think, we’re just gonna sit in my basement all day and play games for the rest of our lives?”

Others who can be seen in the trailer include Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and fan favourite Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) – and what would Stranger Things be without those creatures from the Upside Down?

In December, the name of each episode was revealed in the first teaser and we attempted to decode what could occur in each outing.

The hit show’s second season ended with Hawkins Lab shutting down and the chilling image of the Mind Flayer towering over the central characters’ high school in the Upside Down.

Stranger Things season three, which will also see the return of Winona Ryder and Natalia Dyer, will be available to stream on Netflix from 4 July.
