Stranger Things creators hint major character might still be alive after dramatic season three finale

Fans have speculated on the fate of this character since season three wrapped up

The creators of Stranger Things have hinted that a major character might still be alive after the show’s dramatic season three finale.

David Harbour called the Duffer brothers, who developed the hit Netflix series, from his phone during an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers.

During the call, he asked them to clarify the fate of his character, Jim Hopper.

“Am I dead? Is Hopper dead?” he asked.

“I mean, we’re still figuring it out,” Ross Duffer replied, thus leaving the door open for Hopper to be brought back in the future.

Harbour has previously expressed grief about his character’s fate on social media, hinting on the contrary that Hopper might be gone for good – but his recent late-night interview suggests he’s still in the dark when it comes to the police officer’s possible death.

By the end of season three, Harbour appears to have been left for dead after a final battle inside Hawkins’ Starcourt Mall.

However, a post-credit scene makes mention of a mysterious character referred to as “the American”, who is still alive and whom many fans have speculated could be Hopper.

Harbour himself told Meyers he had immediately assumed Hopper was the American in question, but said he hasn’t been getting “many phone calls” – meaning his character might actually have been killed off.

Stranger Things has been renewed for a fourth season.
