Peppa Pig making American children speak with English accents, parents claim

‘The most entertaining aspect of my life right now is that my toddler has been watching Peppa Pig and now speaks with a British accent’

American parents have claimed that their children are picking up British accents from watching the children’s television show Peppa Pig.

The cartoon depicts character Peppa and her family in a fictional British town filled with other animal families.

It first aired in 2004 and is popular both in the UK and the US.

Peppa’s British accent is now apparently rubbing off on children from all over the world.

A mother in Kansas City shared a clip on social media of her three-year-old son who had picked up a British accent.

Others soon followed and parents from across the US have taken to social media talking about their children’s new-found accents.

Mike Lupa said on Twitter: “Anyone else’s kids developing a slight British accent after watching Peppa pig?’ She is also snorting like a piggy, but that is expected.”

Jen Rofe, a children’s literary agent, said she was appreciating her child’s new accent.

“I’d like to thank Peppa Pig for the slight yet adorable British accent my toddler is acquiring,” she tweeted.

Jess Steinbrenner also tweeted: “The most entertaining aspect of my life right now is that my toddler has been watching Peppa Pig and now speaks with a British accent.”

Peppa Pig has become somewhat of a phenomenon in the last 15 years, with a range of merchandise being sold across the world.

In 2011 a theme park, Peppa Pig World, was opened in Hampshire.
