The Great British Bake Off 2017 final has begun, Steven Carter-Bailey, Sophie Faldo, and Kate Lyon fighting it out to be crowned the winner of this year's competition.

Despite Channel 4 ratcheting up the tension, some members of the public already know who will be crowned winner.

How? Because judge Prue Leith accidentally revealed who wins on Twitter.

At one stage during the episode, Leith commented: “I woke up this morning so excited.” Twitter commentators, as they often do, immediately jumped on the quote, many making very similar jokes.

Speaking about accidentally revealing the winner moments after the offending Tweet was sent, Leith said: “I’m in too much of a state to talk about it.”

She later clarified later on Twitter: “I am so sorry to the fans of the show for my mistake this morning, I am in a different time zone and mortified by my error.”

Channel 4 said there is no further comment. In the since-deleted message, Leith wrote: “No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo.” Leith then named the series winner.
