Who kills Cersei? The Valonqar theory explained

With Game of Thrones a matter of months away, a brand new theory doing the rounds suggests that Cersei Lannister is the key to saving Westeros from the White Walkers.

Cast your mind back to season seven. One episode saw Cersei – played by Lena Headey – hint to her brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) that she was pregnant with his baby.

At the time, fans of the HBO drama suspected that Cersei might be lying in order to keep Jaime at King’s Landing.

Now, Reddit user lounaaaaaaaa is wondering whether Cersei’s pregnancy will be the thing that keeps the Night King from killing everyone in Westeros.

We know that the White Walkers accept young babies as sacrifices, having seen wildling Craster (Robert Pugh) hand his sons over to them in season two.

Will Cersei sacrifice her child to the Night King in the hope that he’ll return to his domain? It’s very possible – and would be a huge twist that one of the show’s biggest villain is the character to save the day.

Knowing Cersei, it would most likely be a choice inspired by the promise of unlimited power.

Headey recently revealed her “love” and “admiration” for Cersei having filmed all her scenes for the final season.

She said: “We’ve seen [these characters] over such a long period of time, and with the subtleties of men’s weaknesses being exposed throughout, these women have risen over the course of this serieI really, genuinely love Cersei and you just have to admire a survivor like that. She absolutely refuses to let go.”

In a brand new interview with The Sunday Times, the British actor also revealed that she believes her refusal to have sex with Wenstein harmed her career "for a decade".

This being the final season, HBO has been reticent to reveal much about what to expect, but this hasn’t stopped fans from theorising.

A cryptic trailer teased a huge reveal relating to the heritage of Jon Snow (Kit Harington), while also resurfacing a rather shocking theory about Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright).

Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic for its final season in April.
