Charmed 2018 - trailer

The trailer for the 2018 reboot of Charmed was released by US network the CW, and it's about three Latina witches.

On Thursday, the network debuted the show's trailer at its upfront presentation alongside the original football drama All American.

In the revival, Mel (Melonie Diaz) Maggie (Sarah Jeffrey) and Macy (Madeleine Mantock) are three sisters who discover they have magical powers.

The series begins with Maggie and Mel living with their mother Marisol who dies unexpectedly and shortly thereafter discovering they have a long-lost sister: Macy.

The new Charmed comes from the mind of Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman and is set to debut just as Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend enter their final seasons.

Fans of the original show have remained divided on social media with some supporting the idea of a re-imagined version and others panning it.

One Twitter user applauded the show for being "more diverse and inclusive" and "having female writers/producers like @Jennie Urman."

Another fan said: "Potentially controversial take but I loved charmed and I love my childhood heroes and the ONLY thing "ruining charmed" for me is the original actors I adored as women acting f****** graceless about the reboot."

Some people were not as thrilled about the return of Charmed, including one of the original show's stars, Holly Marie Combs.

She criticised the reboot saying, "Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern [the executive producer] did weekly don’t even think of capitalising on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye."

A fan even predicted that the show wouldn't last.

Charmed originally aired from 1998 to 2006 and starred Combs, Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano with Rose McGowan joining the cast in the final seasons.

There is no release date yet known for the new series.
