Castle Rock: Watch the trailer for Stephen King's new horror series on Hulu

Anthology series explores worlds uniting from the King canon

The spooky trailer for Stephen King's psychological-horror series Castle Rock has been released.

"Everyone's got a theory how it started - about Castle Rock's original sin," Lost's Terry O'Quinn says, as he gives an ominous overview about the show in the trailer.

He asks: "Was it the Puritans who settled here? Or was it the mills, where we grew rich by scraping God's Earth until it bled? Was that when he turned his back on this town? Whenever it began, whoever's sin we're paying for, we're trapped in a cycle that stretches back centuries. There's blood in every backyard, inside every house. People say 'It wasn't me - it was this place.' And the thing is - they're right."

The trailer is vague with details, but it is filled with terrifying images like a man holding a gun to his own head, a mascot jumping off of a school building and Sissy Spacek's character hiding with a knife in the shower.

Produced by J J Abrams' Bad Robot productions, the Hulu show is set in the fictional Maine town of Castle Rock where much of King's literature has taken place.

King's books including Cujo, The Dark Half, It, Needful Things and The Body occur in Castle Rock.

His short stories including Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are also set in Castle Rock or include references to the town.

A previous trailer featured King locations and characters from his books including It's Pennywise, The Shining's Danny Torrance, The Green Mile's John Coffee and Mr Jingles.

Actors including Spacek, André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Bill Skarsgard, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn will star in the new series.

The first three episodes of Castle Rock will premiere on 25 July on Hulu.
