Captain Ginyu features in Dragon Ball Super

The anime community is in mourning following the death of beloved voice actor Brice Armstrong.

Armstrong, 84, was best known for providing the narration for the English dub of Dragon Ball as well as several characters in the Dragon Ball Z series, including Captain Ginyu and Lord Slug.

So respected was he in his field that – according to Mary Collins Talent Agency – James Earl Jones, the voice behind Star Wars villain Darth Vader, once told him: “I wish I had your vocal control.”

Armstrong, who hailed from Dallas, Texas, died on 10 January of natural causes.

Other shows that he provided voice work for included Yu Yu Hakusho, Lupin the Third and Case Closed.

For those wanting to pay their respects, a donation fundraiser has been set up for Armstrong’s favourite charity.

Anime fans paid tribute to the voice actor on social media.

He is survived by six children and nine grandchildren.
