Missandei death scene - Game of Thrones season 8

*Spoiler warning for Game of Thrones episode "Last of the Starks"*

Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel has responded to the backlash over the death of one of the show’s most beloved characters.

Emmanuel’s time as Missandei on the series came to an end after she was captured by Euron Greyoy and later beheaded by The Mountain in “The Last of the Starks”, on Cersei Lannister’s orders.

Daenerys, who was forced to look on as the execution took place, was devastated at the death of her closest friend, and it was suggested in the series that this is what tips her over the edge and into madness.

However, while many fans wish Missandei might have lived, Emmanuel has pointed out that they should have learnt not to expect justice in a series notorious for killing off key, favourite characters.

“I suddenly feel like she’s no longer in existence; she’s now a character from the past, and that feels different,” she said in an interview with PorterEdit. “The reaction on social media has been overwhelming. And that’s testament to how much people cared for the character.”

“A lot of the comments have been, ‘You deserved better’, but it’s Game of Thrones – there’s no justice, and it doesn’t matter how good you are or how kind or sweet you are, [the show’s evil characters] will get you if it advances their own interests.”

The actor added that she was glad her character got a “f**k you” moment that showed “strength and bravery” in her final moments.
