MeToo activist Rose McGowan to perform one-woman show at Edinburgh Fringe Festival

The premise of the show is to view Earth from another perspective and to learn how 'we can create a liberated and fairer society'

The MeToo activist and actor Rose McGowan will perform in a one-woman show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

The premise of her new show, Planet 9, is to view Earth from another perspective and to learn how we can create a liberated and fairer society. She will combine memoir, music, storytelling, projections and performance to take her audience “on a healing journey of discovery”.

According to The Scotsman, McGowan said: “It is such a forward-thinking festival and it’s a perfect match for my show, Planet 9. Essentially, it’s a mixed media show that has spoken word, visual and music - it’ll be my first time performing a song live!”

The 45-year-old actor has starred in fantasy TV series Charmed (1998-2006), Wes Craven’s cult horror Scream (1996) and Quentin Tarantino’s thriller Death Proof (2007). She was one of the first women to speak out about sexual assault in relation to the media mogul, Harvey Weinstein.

Her memoir Brave, which was published in January 2018, details the alleged assault of Weinstein, who she refers to as the “monster”.

McGowan’s lunchtime show will run for 60 minutes in the Main Hall of Edinburgh’s Assembly Hall. Assembly has hosted a number of well-known performers in its 38-year-history, including Dara O’Briain, whose 2005 appearance at the festival was its biggest selling event.

McGowan’s one-woman show will run from 15-18 August 2019.
