The brother of hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd has been arrested after their stepfather was reportedly shot dead in Mississippi.

TMZ reports that officers attended a property on the evening of Monday 6 January where they found a man who had died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

The news site added that 19-year-old Michael Sullivan, the younger half-brother of rappers Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi, has been arrested on suspicion of murder after being held for psychiatric evaluation in hospital.

In a statement released to WCBI, Tupelo police department said in a statement: “There were no other injuries reported in the home and no other suspects are being sought at this time.”

62-year-old Floyd Sullivan was the step-father of Swae and Slim, and had helped their mother, Bernadette, raise them since they were in school.

While the pair have yet to make an official comment on the incident, Swae posted a string of broken-heart emojis and tweeted: “I pray this world let’s [sic] me keep some compassion.”

Sullivan’s son from a previous relationship, Floyd Sullivan Jr, shared a photo of his father on Instagram and wrote: “RIP pops. Love you always. The greatest man I’ve ever known.”
