Kanye West hospitalised: Artists speak out after reports rapper is suffering from 'exhaustion'

The rapper's public behaviour had been increasingly erratic

Musicians are rallying around Kanye West after reports that the rapper has been admitted to hospital with 'exhaustion'.

Following a week of increasingly erratic behaviour at his shows in the US and controversy over admitting that he admired President-elect Donald Trump's campaign, it was announced that West had cancelled the entire remainder of his Saint Pablo tour.

According to US media, West was taken to hospital following an emergency services call on Monday following the news of the cancelled tour.

Police confirmed to the BBC that they had received a "disturbance call" on Monday afternoon but did not name the singer.

Since his onstage outbursts, several artists have come forward in support of West and to urge people to show compassion during what is clearly a difficult time.

American hip hop artist Talib Kweli Greene tweeted asking West to "come home", calling him a "genius" and an "icon" but denouncing his apparent support for Trump.

Singer and model Janelle Monáe shared the following post:

Actor Emile Hirsch told West to "get better" and sympathised with any ongoing mental health issues.

Kid Cudi, who was checked himself into rehab for depression and suicidal urges in early October, also posted a message of thanks to those who sent their thoughts during his difficult time, including West.

Meanwhile Snoop Dogg voiced his confusion following West's recent rants where he called Donald Trump a "genius" for his campaign; urged former friend Jay Z to "call me, bro"; and said he was "hurt" because Beyonce supposedly said she would not perform at a certain show (presumed to be the Grammys) unless she won Video of the Year over him.

Posting a video on Instagram, Snoop Dogg said: "That n****r crazy. I can't believe he's still talking. He picked the wrong night to vent like that, them Sacramento n****rs ain't feeling that s**t,' he said.

"He was talking that weird a*s s**t. That's just my thoughts,' he added. 'I smoke weed. Weed don't make you do that. What the f**k is he on?"

According to Forbes magazine, West has earned around $17.5 million this year, placing him at 11th on the list of hip hop's highest paid stars.

But the magazine also predicted that teh cancellation of his tour would lose him around $10m. Fortune magazine claimed that the figure was likely to be around $30m, citing a Bloomberg report of West's earnings of $1.4 million per night from ticket sales alone.
