One of the Avengers isn't happy Spider-Man won't appear in future Marvel films.

Following the news that Sony and Marvel failed to come to an agreement that would have seen Tom Holland's character continue to be a part of the MCU, fans have expressed their anger on social media – including his co-star Jeremy Renner.

The Hawkeye actor has demanded Sony return the web-slinger to Marvel Studios and comic book creator Stan Lee, who died earlier this year.

He wrote: "Hey @sonypictures we want Spider-Man back to @therealstanlee and @marvel please, thank you #congrats #spidermanrocks #please."

The breakdown in negotiations was first reported by Deadline, who claims that Sony turned down a request from Disney that the studio receives 50/50 of all future box office takings for standalone Spider-Man films.

Sony went on to express disappointment that the studio wouldn't allow Marvel president Kevin Feige to serve as producer on these future live-action films.

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterised recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise,” a representative said. “We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film.”

There are two more Holland-led Spider-Man films in the works, both of which were reportedly set to be directed by Jon Watts, but these are now expected to move ahead with Sony as opposed to Marvel. Holland will star in those, although it’s unknown whether co-stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon and Marisa Tomei will feature.
