Lighthouse trailer

The first trailer for The Lighthouse starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe has been released, giving viewers a first look at what’s to come when the horror film hits cinemas later this year.

In the creepy clip, Dafoe’s character, Thomas Wake, can be seen quizzing Pattinson’s, Ephraim Winslow, about his secrets, asking repeatedly: “Why’d ya spill your beans?”

Winslow, meanwhile, insists he’s not hiding anything – though the trailer’s mysterious atmosphere suggests otherwise.

The Lighthouse was a sensation at the Cannes Film Festival in May, earning rave reviews.

Variety‘s Owen Gleiberman deemed it a “gripping and turbulent drama”, while The Hollywood Reporter‘s David Rooney called the film a ”distinctive hallucinatory tale”.

Pattinson, meanwhile, previously opened up about the harsh filming conditions he faced while shooting the film.

“That’s the closest I’ve come to punching a director,” he told Interview Magazine.

“However much I love [director] Robert [Eggers], there was a point where I did five takes walking across the beach, and after a while I was like, ‘What the f*** is going on? I feel like you’re just spraying a fire hose in my face.’

“And he was like, ‘I am spraying a fire hose in your face.’ It was like some kind of torture.”
