From screen legend Albert Finney to comedian Jeremy Hardy, the prolific actor best known for his appearances in Gremlins and Gremlins 2, we remember some of the notable figures from the arts world who died in 2019. 

Although no longer with us, their work will still be remembered, revisited, and loved for many years to come – whether they were actors, musicians, poets, or painters.  

January marked the death of singer, songwriter, and environmentalist Pegi Young; alongside the singer and pianist Daryl Dragon, best known as part of the musical duo Captain & Tennill.

Avant-garde filmmaker Jonas Mekas also passed away in January, as did actors Dick Miller and Julie Adams. 

There were several notable deaths in the entertainment world in 2018, from celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain to “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin, jazz singer Nancy Wilson, Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks, and actor Dame June Whitfield.
