Capernaum: exclusive trailer for shortlisted Oscar nominee

We’re happy to exclusively unveil the brand new trailer for acclaimed film, Capernaum.

The Lebanese drama has been hugely anticipated since news broke of its 15-minute standing ovation at Cannes in May, not to mention its eventual Jury Prize win at the French film festival – and UK film fans will finally be able to see it for themselves in 2019.

According to the official synopsis, the film follows a young boy named Zain (Zain Al Rafeea) who sues his own parents "for giving him life." It's "the circumstances that have brought him to this point" which will take viewers on a journey through his poverty-stricken upbringing in Beirut where he lives with his family.

The film, from director Nadine Labaki, was recently announced to have made the shortlist for the Best Foreign Language category at next year’s Academy Awards. The full list of nominations will be announced on 22 January.

Labaki’s previous features include Caramel and Where Do We Go Now?, which was released in 2011.

Special preview screenings of Capernaum will begin on 1 February, ahead of its UK theatrical release on 22 February. You can watch the trailer above.
